It’s been confirmed that the original set of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games are coming to the Wii U Virtual Console in Europe! Both Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team will be purchasable from the EU Nintendo eShop by the end of this week. These two Pokémon spin-off games are among the many Roguelike dungeon-crawler RPG games developed by Chunsoft, with the exception of being among the most well-received (and highest-selling) in both Japan and the West.
Unlike most other Pokémon game pairs, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team & Blue Rescue Team were found on two different gaming handhelds (the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, respectively); given that the Nintendo DS was still in its infancy compared to the well-established Game Boy Advance, the decision to release each game on a different handheld made sense at the time.

There are few real differences between each version. However, Blue Rescue Team version for the DS is a slight notch above in terms of picture and sound quality (not to mention having the additional screen used for stat details and more) and there are some Pokémon that are recruitable in one version that can’t be found in the other (and vice versa), which you can see for yourself here.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team & Blue Rescue Team launches on the EU Nintendo eShop on Thursday, February 11, 2016. Red Rescue Team will cost £6.29 and Blue Rescue Team will cost £8.99 (or your European regional equivalent). No word yet on a North American release.
Good to hear that more people will be able to experience these games. Mystery Dungeon games are an acquired taste, but once you’re hooked, you’re hooked.
