At the AnimeJapan 2016 expo, we got follow-up information regarding a teaser image first seen back in February, as well as confirmation of a brand new Pokémon Trainer figure! A prototype figure of Pokémon Trainer Red (with Pikachu) has been revealed at AnimeJapan 2016, along with a teaser image for Pokémon Trainer May figure (with Mudkip), each of which will be releasing this year and next year.
Both figures are part of Kotobukiya’s ARTFX-J series, a figure line specialized in anime and video game characters originally conceived in Japan.
Though the figure is still in the prototype stages, you can see how Red’s figure closely matches the teaser image drawn by Hitoshi Ariga first shown in February. Notice the electricity coming from Pikachu’s cheeks?
And here’s the teaser image for the May figure. May with Mudkip (known as Haruka with Mizogoru in the original Japanese) is based on May’s current design first seen in Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
Though no exact dates have been given, the Red with Pikachu figure launches in 2016, while the May with Mudkip figure is expected to release in 2017.
That’s quite the wait between figures! Still, with 20th Anniversary merchandise abound alongside upcoming video games and cards, there’s definitely no shortage of Pokémon collectibles in the mean time.
