The follow-up to the “Kanto Edition” releases later this year!
A new version of Pokémon Monopoly has been revealed, following the release of Monopoly – Pokémon: Kanto Edition a few years back. Much like its predecessor, Monopoly – Pokémon: Johto Edition is based on the classic board game Monopoly but with a distinctly Pokémon flair, with many of the traditional Monopoly staples such as Houses and Hotels replaced with Poké Marts and Pokémon Centers, and so on.
Whereas the Kanto Edition featured classic Pokémon and iconography from Generation I, the Johto Edition is based on the world and characters established in Generation II. According to Pokéshopper, this special Pokémon version of Monopoly contains the following:
- 6 Collectible Tokens (Pikachu, Totodile, Togepi, Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Pichu)
- Custom Designed Game Board featuring the Johto Region
- Custom themed Monopoly money
Pokéshopper also reports that is particular set coincides with the 20th Anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, and is marketed as a Limited Edition. However, this edition of Monopoly will also be a North America exclusive, meaning interested fans outside the US and Canada are out of luck.
Several online retailers have already begun taking pre-orders for this board game, with the expected release to be around August-September of 2016.
