This week’s music track: “Humilau City” from Pokémon Black 2 & White 2!
One of the things I love about Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 is the wide variety of great songs featured in its soundtrack. While the games reuse a lot of songs featured in their predecessors, Pokémon Black & White, the games bring a lot of new themes to the table – some of which being among my absolute favourite tunes in the series.
After escaping the terrible events that transpire in Opelucid City, you travel through the Marine Tube from Undella Town to reach Humilau City, a tropical island off the coast of the Unova region. It’s a small island by itself, but a series of piers connect to raised housing just above the tranquil sea waters, making Humilau City the perfect oceanic paradise in Unova.
Composed and arranged by series veteran Go Ichinose, the song itself is relaxing yet upbeat, with bells ringing along to a peppy synth track that permeates much of Black 2/White 2‘s score. Not only does it fit the quirky nature of this island town, it also puts the game in a more positive mood given that you recently escaped from Team Plasma’s wrath in Opelucid City at this point in the story.
This is one song I’d have on my playlist while visiting the beach – assuming I get enough time off to visit a beach someday!
Tune in every Friday for a new installment of Song of the Week, where we listen to songs and tunes spanning all mediums from the world of Pokémon!
