This week’s music track: “Sky Tower” from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon!
The final gauntlet that awaits you in the main story of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team & Blue Rescue Team is the Sky Tower, home of the legendary Rayquaza. Scaling this pillar of clouds is no small feat, especially with the constant of threat of enemy Pokémon and the fear of stumbling into a Monster House.
The world is on the brink of calamity, and you need to persuade one of the most powerful Pokémon on the planet to aid your cause. It’ll be a tough ordeal, but you can do it; the fate of the world depends on it.
The theme for Sky Tower is my absolute favourite dungeon track in this game. It’s the kind of theme that evokes a sense of strength in the face of hardship, which is all the more fitting for this dungeon; you need patience to overcome this long and arduous task of making it through the Sky Tower, but you can succeed.
The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series sets itself apart from the main series in a lot of ways – from the gameplay, the difficulty, the tone, the world and, of course, the music. While many songs in this series are typically overshadowed in popularity by tunes from the main series, they still resonate strongly for those who’ve experienced these games to their fullest.
Given that each of the two versions of the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is on two separate gaming systems, the soundtracks for both versions sound slightly different from one another. I posted the version from Red Rescue Team here out of preference, but you can listen to Blue Rescue Team‘s version over here; who knows, maybe you’ll like that version more!
Tune in every Friday for a new installment of Song of the Week, where we listen to songs and tunes spanning all mediums from the world of Pokémon!
