New images and info lead to next expansion following Steam Siege!

The next expansion following XY – Steam Siege has been revealed!  While its existence was leaked a few weeks prior, we now have an image of the logo in addition to more information about its Japanese equivalent that confirms that the 12th XY expansion will be called XY – Evolutions.

In a surprise twist, this expansion will feature reworked cards from the original Pokémon TCG Base Set (for real, this time), celebrating 20 years of Pokémon by showcasing the cards that launched the Pokémon Trading Card Game.  However, a slew of new Pokémon-EX and BREAK Evolution cards will also be featured in Evolutions, creating a mixture of old-meets-new that rounds-out the overall package.

Given its release date and theme, this will likely be the final expansion of the XY series of cards before we move on to the first Sun & Moon series of the Pokémon TCG, likely sometime in early 2017.

Here’s an excerpt from the English sell sheet:

Thanks to PokéBeach, we have a translation of the Japanese sell sheet.  This particular summary actually paints a broader picture of what to expect from these Base Set reprints in particular:

The Pokemon Card Game has been on sale for 20 years! Cards from 20 years ago are being resurrected so that they can be used in the modern format! The Pokemon Card Game was born in October of 1996, and to this date is sold in 74 countries. In total, more than 21.5 billion cards have shipped!

Many cards in this set are aimed at former players! The reprinted cards use the unchanged art from that era. The set is designed to evoke the nostalgia of the era, the fun of opening packs, and the fun of collecting, as well as bringing new surprises!

The set’s booster package artwork is a completely redrawn version of the original Base Set‘s booster pack artwork! The set’s lineup mostly follows the composition of Base Set.

As for current players, many new Mega Evolution Pokemon, Pokemon-EX, BREAK Evolution Pokemon, and Trainers are also included!

There are lots of cards that current players will want! All categories of Pokemon are included, and can be used to power up all sorts of decks!

Pokémon TCG: XY – Evolutions is expected to release on November 2, 2016.

The XY-reprint set is used to celebrate the 20th Anniversary while the Base Set reprint is being used to end the XY era.  Not to nitpick, but I can’t help but feel as if Generations and Evolutions got swapped.

Oh well!
