This week’s music track: “Relic Forest” from Pokémon Colosseum!
Shadow Pokémon are one of the defining features of both Pokémon Colosseum and its sequel, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkenss. These Pokémon had their emotions sealed away by the nefarious crime syndicate Cipher, and have become nothing more than vicious tools of war. Cloaked with an ominous aura and able to use hard-hitting Shadow Moves, these Shadow Pokémon have no qualms attacking humans and other Pokémon alike.
However, a Trainer with a good heart and plenty of patience can bring these corrupted Pokémon back to normal. When they are ready, both Trainer and their Shadow Pokémon must seek out the Relic Stone, a sacred shrine capable of completely opening the door to a Pokémon’s heart, purifying them and ridding them of their shadowy corruption for good.
To reach the Relic Stone, one must enter the Relic Forest…
Unlike the other bombastic and funky themes you’ve heard up to this point in your adventures, Relic Forest’s theme is the epitome of peaceful and relaxing. Composed by Tsukasa Tawada, it’s a theme that conveys a sense of purity – fitting, given that this is the place where you need to take Shadow Pokémon who are ready to be purified!
Though both Relic Forest and its theme show up in both Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD, the theme has a slightly different instrumentation between both games. While I’ve posted the Colosseum version above, check out the XD version here; maybe you’ll like that version a bit more!
It’s also worth noting that the “Pokémon Purified” jingle uses a portion of this tune. Listen to it down below here, and see if you can hear the connection:
