Additional clarification needed due to text error in Steam Siege’s “Galvantula” card
The official Pokémon site announced that Galvantula from XY – Steam Siege will be receiving errata due to a error found within the card text. The rules will be updated to ensure that the card’s original intent is followed properly, as the card’s description for Galvantula’s move Double Thread is written in such a way that may cause confusion for players.
The original text for Double Thread is as follows:
This attack does 30 damage to 2 of your opponent’s Pokémon. Also apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.
However, the card text is supposed to be written like this:
This attack does 30 damage to 2 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon. Apply Weakness and Resistance.
Essentially, Double Thread is supposed to target only your opponent’s Benched Pokémon.
According to the official site, this change Double Thread is effective immediately and the card will use the updated text as a result. The official Pokémon Trading Card Game errata document has been updated with this change to Galvantula‘s card.
Keep in mind that this text update is not the result of balancing the card for competitive play, but to fix a translation error in order to keep it in line with the original Japanese card.
From what I gather, this isn’t too big of a nerf to Galvantula, but it does take away the ability to attack the opponent’s Active Pokémon. I do wonder if we’ll ever get a reprint of these card in feature the updated card text, though…
