Max Mushrooms in Pokémon Go: A New Strategic Element

In December 2024, Max Mushrooms are set to make their controversial debut in Pokémon Go. Originating from Pokémon Sword and Shield, these items allow players to transform regular Dynamax Pokémon into Gigantamax variants in the original games. However, Pokémon Go has reimagined their function entirely.

In Pokémon Go, Max Mushrooms significantly boost the damage output of your Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon during Max Battles. This effect lasts for 30 minutes, and although multiple Max Mushrooms can extend the duration, they do not enhance the damage multiplier further. Players can activate a Max Mushroom from their Item Bag while in the Max Battle lobby.

Currently, acquiring Max Mushrooms requires purchasing them from the Pokémon shop. Individual mushrooms cost 400 coins, while a set of three is priced at 1,000 coins. Occasionally, they may appear in event boxes with other items.

A new opportunity to obtain a Max Mushroom is available during the upcoming Gigantamax Kingler Max Battle Day through Timed Research. However, participation demands an event ticket priced at US$5.00 or a similar amount in other currencies. This event, scheduled for February 1, 2025, from 2pm to 5pm local time, also rewards players with 25,000 XP, doubles XP from Max Battles, and increases the Max Particle collection limit to 5,600.

While players can observe if others have activated Max Mushrooms, these buffs exclusively benefit the user’s Pokémon. The decision to invest in Max Mushrooms depends on your strategy. Well-coordinated teams with strong counterattacks might find them unnecessary, but they could prove advantageous in tightly matched battles.
